.LORD WORSLEY WAS A 3 MASTED STEAMER OF 290 TONS WITH A 80/250 HP A ENGINE. SHE HAD BEEN BUILT IN 1858 AT HULL FOR PEARSON AND COLEMAN ( INTERCOLONIAL ROYAL MAIL PACKET CO ). SHE WAS THE SISTER SHIP TO THE LORD ASHLEY. BOTH VESSELS WERE CHARTERED IN 1858 FOR VOYAGES DOWN TO NEW ZEALAND, WITHIN DAYS OF SHAW SAVILLE & CO COMING INTO EXISTANCE, LORD ASHLEY LEAVING FROM MILFORD HAVEN BOUND FOR AUCKLAND AND THE LORD WORSLEY LEAVING FROM GREENHITHE TO PORT CHALMERS. SHE SAILED ON 2ND JUNE AND ARRIVED IN PORT CHALMERS ON THE 4TH OCTOBER 1858 CARRYING 60 PASSENGER. BOTH VESSELS HAD ACCOMODATION FOR 30 FIRST CLASS AND 100 SECOND CLASS PASSENGERS. THESE TWO VESSELS WERE THE FIRST COMMERCIAL STEAM SHIP VESSELS TO SAIL DIRECT FROM THE U.K TO NEW ZEALAND.
SHE WAS WRECKED IN NAMU BAY ON 1ST SEPTEMBER 1862 AT 1.30 IN THE MORNING.HER CAPTAIN WAS JAMES BOWDEN.THE TARANAKI WAR WAS INPROGRESS AND THERE WAS CONCERN FOR THE 60 PASSENGERS SAFETY, BUT A LOCAL MAORI KING GAVE HIS PROTECTION TO THEM. ALL REACHED TARANAKI TOWN UN MOLESTED AND WITH ALL THEIR BELONGINGS AND PROPERTY INTACT

SHE WAS USED AS A BARGE THEN REFITTED AND PUT BACK INTO SERVICE
IN 1928 SHE WAS TOWED TO THE UK AND SCRAPPED
