SHAW SAVILL & ALBION LINE SHIPS |
|
You may notice that the same ship name appears more than once - some ships were named after a predecessor, and some chartered vessels were given the same name over the years i.e. there's been quite a few vessels named 'Zealandic'. These lists are not yet complete - I’m still working at it. You will perhaps wonder why I’ve put some vessels such as the 'Drina' and 'Durango' under the SSA listings, but I find that when people are talking about the 'Ruthenia' they still refer to her as the 'Durango'. The 'Cretic' although built for SSA, often gets referred to as the 'Drina' probably due to the fact that crew came over with the ship from one company to the other.

CRUSADER SHIPPING COMPANY
SHAW SAVILLE & CO / EARLY SHAW SAVILL
& ALBION VESSELS
note - some vessels that were actually on
a Shaw Savill charter were quite often passed off as being owned by Shaw Savill
directly with their tonnage often exaggerated. Also when researching ships look
at the date, some vessels may be Albion line ships if prior to 1882. all Shaw Savill
ships had portholes painted down the sides, not conclusive but may help to
identify ships as being Shaw Savill ( other companies did the same thing thou )

VESSELS
*Please note that I cannot help with passenger or crew lists from any of the above vessels *
If you are looking for a specific vessel, Its worth bearing in mind that prior to 1906 several ships could bear the same name, after this date the merchant shipping act was meant to be enforced, thus preventing the use of duplicate names on current vessels. However there were a few exceptions to this rule.
The following sites are well worth a visit for information relating to immigrant ships and much more |
