QUEEN OF THE SOUTH WAS AN IRON STEAMSHIP OF 198 TONS.SHE WAS BUILT BY McINTYRE AT PAISLEY SCOTLAND IN 1877.OFFICIAL NUMBER WAS 74793 SHE WAS OWNED BY EDWARD PIERCE (1902 ) SHE HAD BEEN REGISTERED IN WELLINGTON. SOLD ONTO NEW ZEALAND INTERESTS AND WAS LOST ON MAY 10TH 1919 NEAR CAPE CAMPBELL.SHE WAS NEVER CHARTERED BY THE WHITE STAR LINE. I PLACE THIS INFORMATION HERE JUST FOR REFERENCE.

IRON VESSEL BUILT BY C J MARE & CO OF BLACKWALL AND LAUNCHED ON 29TH
OCTOBER 1851 FOR THE GENERAL CREW COMPANY, SHE COST £70,000 TO BUILD.
ON 4TH APRIL 1854 SHE SAILED FROM SOUTHAMPTON FOR PORT PHILLIP AND SYDNEY
CARRYING 90 PASSENGERS.
ON 22ND JULY 1854 SHE RETURNED TO SOUTHAMPTON FROM MELBOURNE CARRYING 50
PASSENGERS SHE ARRIVED IN SOUTHAMPTON ON 13TH OCTOBER 1854.
IN NOVEMBER 1867 SHE WAS OWNED BY S BOULT OF LIVERPOOL.
2ND NOVEMBER 1869 AND SHE WAS OWNED BY MERCHANT TRADING LTD OF LIVERPOOL.
IN 1870 SHE WAS FITTED WITH NEW ENGINES BY J JACK OF LIVERPOOL.ON THE 7TH
JANUARY 1871 SHE WAS SOLD TO FOREIGN INVESTERS AND HER ENGINES WERE RE-MOVED.

QUEEN OF THE SOUTH WAS A VESSEL OF 1,713 TONS BUILT IN 1853 AS THE 'MORNING LIGHT' ON THE PISCATAQUA RIVER IN PORTSMOUTH.
SHE WAS BUILT BY TOBEY & LITTLEFIELD.
SHE WAS OWNED BY GLIDDEN & WILLIAMS OF BOSTON 1853 TO 1863
SHE WAS SOLD IN 1863 TO JAMES BAINES & CO (BLACKBALL LINE ) AFTER BEING BOUGHT BY BAINES & MACKAY ( BLACKBALL ) SHE WAS RE-NAMED 'QUEEN OF THE SOUTH'.
SHE WAS CHARTERED BY THE WHITE STAR LINE FROM JAMES BAINES BLACKBALL LINE IN 1863 AND SAILED FROM LONDON TO NEW ZEALAND
SHE WAS SOLD IN 1867 BUT I THINK WAS THEN CHARTERED BY BAINES MACKAY IN 1869 ( THIS DATE CANNOT BE RIGHT OR IT WAS A DIFFERENT VESSEL AS SHE WRECKED IN 1868 ! )
HER LAST OWNERS WERE JAMES BAINE & CO ( BLACKBALL LINE )

THERE WAS ANOTHER 'MORNING LIGHT' WHICH WAS THE SISTER SHIP TO THE WHITE STAR LINE VESSEL 'WHITE STAR' SHE WAS OF 2377 TONS AND HAD BEEN BUILT IN 1855 AND THEN LAUNCHED IN 1856.THE VESSL CHARTERED BY J BAINES & CO.IN 1881 SHE WAS SOLD TO SIEDENBURG, WENDT & CO WHO RE-NAMED HER J W WENDT. THE SHIP WAS WRECKED IN 1889 NEAR BARNEGAT, NEW JERSEY. THERE WAS ANOTHER VESSEL CALL J W WENDT OF 1,745 TONS RECORDED AS SAILING FROM PORT PIRIE TO SYDNEY IN JANUARY 1897

BUILT IN 1855 BY WRIGHT OF ST. JOHN'S. SHE WAS A VESSEL OF 2377 TONS. ALTHOUGH OWNED BY HER BUILDERS, THE BLACKBALL LINE ( JAMES BAINE ) HAD SOME SHARES IN HER. IN 1861 SHE WAS CHARTERED BY THE WHITE STAR LINE AND AGAIN IN 1866. IN 1863 TO 1866 SHE WAS AGAIN CHARTERED BY THE WHITE STAR LINE AND MADE A QUITE A FEW VOYAGES FOR THEM FROM LIVERPOOL TO MELBORNE

NOT MUCH IS REALLY KNOWN REGARDING THE WHITE STAR SHIP QUEEN OF THE SOUTH OTHER THAN SHE MUST HAVE BEEN A CHARTERED VESSEL. ITS COMPOUNDED BY THE FACT THAT THERE WERE AT LEAST TWO 'QUEEN OF THE SOUTH' VESSELS OPERATING AT THE SAME TIME.
