GERMANIC / OTTAWA / GUL DJEMAL / GULCEMAL

BUILT IN BELFAST IN 1874 FOR THE WHITE STAR LINE.SHE WAS RE-BUILT IN 1895 HAVING AN EXTRA DECK ADDED AND HER FUNNELS LENGTHENED,PLUS THE ENGINES WERE REPLACED.IN 1899 SHE CAPSIZED AT HER BERTH IN NEW YORK,DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF SNOW AND ICE THAT ACCUMULATED ON HER DURING A PARTICULARLY BAD WINTER. SHE WAS SALVAGED AND CONTINUED HER CAREER ON THE NORTH ATLANTIC.RE-NAMED OTTAWA IN 1905

AFTER SALE TO DOMINION LINE.SHE WAS EVENTUALLY SOLD TO A TURKISH COMPANY AND RE-NAMED 'GUL DJEMAL'.IN 1915 SHE WAS TORPEDOED AND SUNK IN THE SEA OF MARMOA BY THE BRITISH SUBMARINE E.14.SHE WAS SALVAGED AND IN 1928 SHE WAS RE-NAMED 'GULCEMAL'.SHE WAS SCRAPPED IN MESSINA IN 1950 AFTER 75 YEARS OF SERVICE
