BUILT IN BELFAST BY HARLAND AND WOLFF, AND LAUNCHED IN 1931. SHE WAS TO BE THE LAST SHIP BUILT FOR THE WHITE STAR LINE AND WAS THE SISTER SHIP TO BRITANNIC, THOU SLIGHTLY LARGER AND A FEW DIFFERENCES IN APPEARANCE.THE FORWARD FUNNEL WAS A DUMMY AND WAS USED TO HOUSE THE RADIO ROOM.SHE WAS INCORPORATED INTO THE CUNARD-WHITE STAR LINE IN 1934. IN 1940 SHE WAS REQUISITIONED AS A TROOP SHIP, AND MODIFIED TO CARRY UP TO 3000 TROOPS. IN 1941 SHE WAS ATTACKED BY GERMAN BOMBERS AND SEVERELY DAMAGED WHILST OFF PORT TEWFLK, SHE WAS DRIVEN ASHORE BURNT OUT AND HALF UNDER WATER, BUT WAS SALVAGED AND TAKEN IN TOW BY THE CLAN CAMPBELL AND CITY OF SYDNEY AND TAKEN TO PORT SUDAN, SHE LEFT AFTER REPAIRS AND WAS TOWED BY RECORDER ( HARRISON LINE ) AND THE TUG ST.SAMPSON.ALL THREE VESSELS HEAVED TOO IN A STRONG GALE AND THE TUG WAS DAMAGED, SINKING SHORTLY AFTERWARD.RECORDER WAS JOINED BY HARESFIELD ( BRITISH INDIA LINE ) AND THEY TOWED THE GEORGIC TO KARACHI . SHE THEN LEFT KARACHI, CALLING AT BOMBAY FOR A DRY-DOCK & REPAIRS TO GO TO BELFAST FOR FULL OVERHAUL AND REPAIRS WHICH TOOK SEVENTEEN MONTHS.IN 1948 SHE WAS CONVERTED TO CARRY IMMIGRANTS DOWN TO AUSTRALIA , LATER SHE WAS USED AS A LINER ON THE NEW YORK RUN.IN 1955 SAW A RESUMPTION OF HER USE AS AN IMMIGRANT CARRIER DOWN TO AUSTRALIA, SHE ALSO UNDERTOOK MORE TROOPING DUTIES.SHE WAS LAID UP AT THE END OF 1955 AND  WAS SCRAPPED IN 1956 AT FASLANE.THE SECOND PICTURE SHOWS HER IN WAR TIME LIVERY BEFORE HER REFIT.
