LOCH AWE WAS A IRON SHIP OF 1,101/1,050 TONS BUILT IN GLASGOW IN 1869 BY BARCLAY'S FOR J & R WILSON OF GLASGOW AND SHE WAS ALSO  REGISTERED IN GLASGOW

( SOME REPORTS SUGGEST THAT THEY WERE ALSO HER FINAL OWNERS WHICH CANNOT BE CORRECT )

SHE WAS CHARTERED BY SHAW SAVILL & CO AT SOME STAGE ALSO CHARTERED BY THE  NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING CO AND OTHER LINES

 SHE POSSIBLY WAS OWNED BY THE NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING CO LTD ( CANADIAN-AUSTRALIAN LINE ) OF LONDON  AT SOME STAGE ( OR MAYBE JUST CONFUSION OVER WHEHER SHE WAS ACTUALLY OWNED OR JUST CHARTERED )

SHE LEFT SOUTH WEST DOCK ON 3RD APRIL 1874 AND GRAVESEND ON 6TH APRIL PASSING DEAL ON THE 7TH . HER DESTINATION WAS AUCKLAND WHICH SHE MADE IN 70 DAYS . SHE CARRIED 367/369 IMMIGRANTS SHE WAS COMMANDED BY CAPTAIN WEIR.THE CHIEF OFFICER WAS MR BOYD ( LATER TO COMMAND THE 'PIAKO'


SHE WAS RIGGED AS A BARQUE SOMETIME AFTER THIS VOYAGE

14TH FEBRUARY 1878 SHE LEFT LONDON BOUND FOR PORT ADELAIDE ARRIVING 8TH MAY 1878

29TH FEBRUARY 1888 SHE LEFT LIVERPOOL BOUND FOR PORT ADELAIDE ARRIVING 24TH MAY 1888

SHE WAS THEN SOLD TO A NORWEGIAN COMPANY WHO RENANED HER /MADURA' - SEE BELOW

IN 1896 SOLD TO MARTIN BRUUSGAARD OF  DRAMMEN AND RENAMED MADURA

IN 1902 SHE WAS TRANSFERRED TO KARL BRUUSGAARD

IN 1915 SOLD OR TRANSFERRED TO JOHAN BRUUSGAARD

IN 1916 TRANSFERRED TO KARL & SIGURD BRUUSGAARD

ON MAY 21ST 1917 SHE WAS SUNK/SCUTTLED  BY THE GERMAN SUBMARINE U-48 (  CAPTAIN KARL EDELING IN COMMAND ) WHILE ON A VOYAGE FROM GULFPORT TO CARDIFF CARRYING A CARGO OF TIMBER  60 MILES SOUTH-WEST OF QUEENSTOWN TWO PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES
