RANGOON 

THE RANGOON LEFT EAST INDIA DOCKS ON NOVEMBER 26TH 1863 WITH 110 PASSENGERS SHE  HAD TO WAIT UNTIL 10TH DECEMBER BEFORE LEAVING THE DOWNS ( SHIPS PAPERS NOT IN ORDER ? )

 SHE WAS UNDER THE COMMAND OF CAPTAIN PEARMAN.

 ON LEAVING SHE HIT THE LORD MAIDSTONE (BARQUE ) AND BEGAN TO SINK.

SHE WAS TOWED INTO DEAL.SHE WAS REPAIRED BUT NOT UNTIL JANUARY 13TH 1864 WAS SHE ABLE TO RESUME HER VOYAGE.

HAVING TO CONTEND WITH BAD WEATHER ALL THE WAY, SHE PUT INTO SYDNEY FOR SUPPLIES ON 2ND JUNE 1864 AND DETAINED UNTIL 4TH JULY ( 

THE PASSENGERS LODGING A COMPLAINT ABOUT THEIR TREATMENT AND CONDITIONS DURING THE VOYAGE )

 AND THEN SHE RESUMED HER VOYAGE  ONTO HER INTENDED DESTINATION OF NAPIER.SHE ARRIVED IN NAPIER ON JULY 23RD 1864.

RANGOON BUILT IN 1860 AND WAS A VESSEL OF 498 TONS BUILT BY PILE SPENCER & CO OF WEST HARTLEPOOL HER ENGINE FITTED BY RICHARDSON & SONS ALSO OF WEST HARTLEPOOL

SHE WAS OWNED BY CALCUTTA & BURMAH STEAM NAVIGATION CO OF GLASGOW FROM 1860 TO 1871

FROM 1871 TO 1873 SHE WAS OWNED BY TAN KIM TIAN OF SINGAPORE

ON 21ST JANUARY 1873 SHE WAS WRECKED NEAR CAPE FINISTERRE ON A VOYAGE BACK TO GLASGOW TO HAVE HER ENGINES REPLACED

RANGOON L AUNCHED ON 4TH APRIL 1863 SHE HAD BEEN BUILT BY SAMUDA BROTHERS IN BLACKWALL.SHE WAS A VESSEL OF 1,776/1,253 TONS HER ENGINES WERE MADE BY HUMPHRYS TENNAMT & DYKES

SHE WAS IN P & O SERVICE FROM 1863 TO 1871

IN 1871 SHE WAS OUTSIDE POINT DE GAULLE ( AWAITING TO DISEMBARK THE PILOT ) WHEN SHE DRIFTED INTO KADIR ROCK AND WAS HOLED. SIX HOURS LATER SHE SLIPPED OF THE ROCKS AND
INTO DEEP WATER . THE PILOT WAS BLAMED FOR THE ENTIRE INCIDENT

I WOULD SAY THAT THIS IS NOT THE SHAW SAVILL CHARTERED VESSEL

RANGOON/CARBONAVI/ARPAD

 

RANGOON HAN BEEN A VESSEL OF 3,891 TONS . SHE WAS BUILT IN 1897 BEING LAUNCHED ON 17TH MAY 1897.  SHE WAS A TWIN SCREW STEAMER BEING BUILT BY WILLIAM DENNY & BROTHERS OF DUMBARTON.HER ENGINES WERE BUILT BY DENNY & COMPANY DUMBARTON. HER FIRST OWNERS WERE THE BRISTISH BURMESE STEAM NAVIGATION CO LTD ( P HENDERSON OF GLASGOW - ALBION LINE ) SHE WAS SOLD TO THE  NAUTILUS SS CO AND RE-NAMED PALM BRANCH IN 1907. SOLD AGAIN IN 1929 TO THE SOC ITALIANA CARBONAMENTO NAVI OF GENOA AND RE-NAMED 'CARBONAVI' IN 1930 SOLD ONTO BURGER,STROMEYER & TARICA OF BUDAPEST AND RE-NAMED 'ARPAD'. SHE WAS ABANDONED AND SANK IN 1934 ON THE 3RD OF JANUARY IN POSITION 16.45 SOUTH 88.20 EAST. SHE HAD BEEN ON THE WAY TO THE BREAKERS YARD IN JAPAN FROM PORT NATAL

THE ALBION SHIPPING CO WAS FORMED IN 1864 AND AMALGAMATED WITH SHAW SAVILL & CO TO FORM THE SHAW SAVILL & ALBION COMPANY IN 1882.

IN 1874 P HENDERSON FORMED  THE BRITISH & BURMESE S.N CO WAS FORMED

IN 1965 OCEAN STEAMSHIP CO WAS ALSO FORMED (CLOSED 1967)
